Series: Mass Effect
Appearance: Image refs. Lightish brown skin, brown hair cropped a few inches past her ears. Age: 32 if you count the two years spent dead, 30 if you don’t.

Canon Point: Post Mass Effect 3; Synthesis Ending

Canon History: A link to a separate post for ease of reference to the rest of this app!

Canon Personality: There are many words that can be used to describe Commander Shepard, but one of the first ones that can come to mind is brave. When it comes to battle, she’s always the first one in and the last one out. Time and time again in the games Shepard is the last one holding the line, escorting friends and civilians out of danger before hauling herself out of it. Her service record is indicative of this; the Skyllian Blitz wouldn’t have succeeded if she hadn’t put herself in the greatest amount of danger to protect the colonists and her fellow marines. It’s a pattern that sticks around, manifesting multiple times throughout the series proper. She also is incredibly protective and loyal, throwing herself in the way of the Prothean beacon back on Eden Prime to keep Kaidan safe, actively seeking out her squad after losing them in Mass Effect 2, and going to the ends of the galaxy to get them the closure they needed for no reason other than they were her people. This also speaks of a deep compassion for those around her; even as she is mentally falling apart over the loss of Thessia in Mass Effect 3, Shepard still finds strength within to offer kind words to Liara after she watched her homeworld burn.

She is also inquisitive, constantly asking questions and digging deeper into a problem. Her conversations with her crew or hell just random NPCs can last for an hour on their own because she keeps finding new things to ask. The Alliance also worked extreme determination into her, which matches well with the iron will she possesses. Despite multiple and long exposures to Reaper tech throughout the series, Shepard’s sheer force of will kept her from being indoctrinated, even helping repel the compulsion set up by the Illusive Man in the final hour of ME3. Even as she is bleeding out at the end of the world, the moment Hackett tells her that they need her help she pulls herself back up, determined to be the hero they need. The name Commander Shepard is synonymous with strength and endurance, and the trust that humanity and the galaxy puts in her is not wasted.

Personality Shifts: The main pillars of Shepard’s personality aside, this Shepard is more Paragon in nature despite her rough and tumble upbringing, choosing more often the way of diplomacy and reasoning than pulling out a gun and threatening people into doing her bidding. All the same though, that streak of rage at the world still sits in her and if you threaten her or those she considers her own, she will drop all niceties and take you out for the scum you are. When it comes to matters of the heart she is very tentative, slow to grow close but ultimately desires that closeness, having been denied it for so long as a child.

Being the model of humanity was a choice on her part; she wanted to distance herself as much as possible from who she was on Earth and prove to herself and Anderson that she was a person worthy of this second chance. The Alliance gave her many opportunities to do so and she rose to the challenges presented, though the feeling of other people’s lives being more important than hers never left her. Despite everything she’s seen, she still tries to see the good in people. Of course, seeing the good in people is an easier risk to take when you can kill said people in a myriad of ways if they step out of line.

Abilities:

Lord have mercy, Shepard has a lot of abilities. As expressed in the beginning of this app, my Shepard is a Vanguard, a class of fighter that employs both biotics and shotguns in a high-reward, high-risk strategy of combat. Biotics are the ability for a lifeform to generate their own mass effect fields, using element zero modules embedded into their tissues after in utero exposure to the substance. These powers can be enhanced and controlled through bio-amps being surgically installed into the spine or central nervous system of the person in question. Shepard specifically has an L5n bio-amp implant, the most advanced implant for soldiers in her class. Vanguards get a bit of an overhaul as of Mass Effect 2, but since my Shepard is from the last game of the trilogy, I will be focusing on the abilities available to her there.

She has access to incendiary and cryo ammo (which basically means that one type of ammo will burn people, the other type will freeze them) and two passive abilities:

Assault Mastery, which is a passive ability that gives bonuses to recharge times and weapon and power bonuses, plus an increased ability to care heavy equipment.

Fitness, another passive ability that gives health and shield bonuses as well as melee bonuses.

As well as her biotic abilities:

Pull, which allows her to pull an opponent helplessly off the ground for up to 8 seconds and has an impact radius of 2 meters.

Biotic Charge, a power unique to Vanguards. You create a biotic barrier around yourself and hurl yourself bodily at your opponent at high speeds across the battlefield to damage them. While doing this the biotic is temporarily invulnerable, taking no damage for the attack.

Shockwave, an ability that topples enemies over with a burst of biotic power with a radius of 2 meters.

Nova, a close range shockwave that by exploding your own personal biotic barrier can damage enemies within a radius of 5 meters. (You basically get right up in their face and set it off which was an impact radius of 5 meters.)

Flare, an ability she learned from Aria T’Loak, which focuses and then expends all biotic energy to blowback enemies within 10 meters, causing massive damage.

All abilities mentioned here except for the passive ones have a cooldown associated with them, meaning that after Shepard uses them she can’t use them again from a range of 5 seconds to 8 seconds depending on the ability in question, with the exception of Flare, which has a cooldown of 19 seconds. Outside of this, Shepard has proficiency with pistols and shotguns, as well as years of N7 training specifically for survival situations; She has the skills to operate with little sleep, food, or water, along with training in zero-g combat, parachuting, jetpack flight, combat diving, combat instruction, linguistics and front line trauma care for both alien and human biology. Outside of that, my Shepard is no expert with technology but she has a certain level of understanding with it, capable of hacking and coding semi-complex things.

Due to Cerberus upgrades, she can take a hit a lot more than the average human can; her entire body has been integrated with tech and metal to further strengthen her bones and abilities to make her the ultimate soldier. Weapons that would break the bones of those who didn’t have cybernetically enhanced bone structure are a piece of cake for her to handle.

Inventory: Due to the circumstances of my Shepard’s arrival to LifeAftr, she does not have anything on her other than the clothes on her back. Please don’t take her clothes.

If there are any questions at all about the world, Shepard's powers, or anything else in this app, don't hesitate to contact me and let me know! I am happy to help.

EDIT: Copy and paste of Shepard's in-game nerfs here for ease of reference

In regards to nerfs, the following restrictions will apply to Shepard:

-Biotic Charge will have a range restriction of 30 feet maximum.
-Incendiary/Cryo ammo abilities, whilst not applicable without a weapon and ammo, will tend to overheat weapons very quickly.
-Biotic abilities will have a longer cool down period; double that of the originals.

Additionally, due to the amount of bionics Shepard has grafted into her person, a sigil will be located on her back to keep her- alive, really. She will be required to recharge this sigil through use of the mana pools noted on the Settings Page.
